Bukowski & Me
I read Bukowski
Must be a hundred times
And it gives me hope
To know that someone else
Like me
Despised this terrible place
With its terrible people
And its terrible ways
But it gives me hope as I say
To know that someone else understood
The drink
The drugs
The women
And being alone
And being
Just fine
With that
Better to be alone
With drink
With drugs
With women
And understand why
Than to be
In terrible company
In a terrible place
With terrible people
And their terrible ways
And to be completely
And utterly
Misunderstood
Much better
To be
Alone
Like Bukowski
And me

“I don’t speak that language anymore and that too is a massacre that I am bathing in.”
“You asked if you should call. I asked if I should visit. We both fell back into our whiskey, neither of us thinking this would be the last time we didn’t say goodbye.”— Jared Singer, from Forgive Yourself These Tiny Acts of Self-Destruction
Marnix.
“I have long since forgiven your lies. I have long since forgiven my body for failing, for breaking. Maybe forgiveness is transitive.”— Jared Singer, from Forgive Yourself These Tiny Acts of Self-Destruction
Recovery vs. relapse is such a vicious cycle
“But I must admit I miss you quite terribly. The world is too quiet without you nearby. I go to bed early and rise late and feel as if I have hardly slept.”—
Visit me in my dreams. So you can tell me what form your soul takes when it leaves your body. That way, it’ll be easier for me to find you — in another world or another time. I’ll be staring at the stars like you told me to, waiting patiently for any sign of you, my lighthouse.
I love you forever, Marnix.
